I was the first Marine on the USS Helena CA-75, to have a director as a battle station.
The skipper thought we could do more then just man the forward 3" 50 guns.
So I was given director # 53 on the starboard side.
Another Marine, Ted Peterson, was in director #52 on the port side.
We were told that we were the first Marines in Navy history to man a director.

It was my calling. That director and I got along great.
My radar shack and I had the best shooting record on the Helena.
