1960 - 1961

We entered the flood-swollen Columbia River
on the first leg of our trip up to Portland.

Special guests came aboard at Astoria
for a firsthand look at HELENA in action.

The 120-mile trip up the rivers provided us with a look
at the beautiful Oregon-Washington forests and hills.

We sneaked under the last bridge, nudged up to the river wall,
and got a preview of the good times in store for us.

Our tours of the area took us to Bonneville Dam, through the forests which give life to much of Portland's industry,
and along the Columbia and Williamette Rivers. But whenever we returned to the ship, there were always visitors.
