The Naval Base at Yokosuka with the HELENA (CA-75) (l) and the TOLEDO (CA-133) (r). The entrance to Yokosuka harbor is at the right.

The trip to Yokosuka was uneventful. After we arrived, things began to pick up a bit. In response to our message asking if they were ready for us to relieve them,
the ST. PAUL hoisted a great big "affirm," just about six times the usual size; they were ready to go home! On the eighth day of November we became the
flag ship of Commander Seventh Task Fleet Vice Admiral RUSSELL S. BERKEY, USN.

Many of the crew were making their first liberty in an oriental port and they were out to make the most of it. Souvenirs began to come aboard in
all sizes and shapes. Kimonos, silk pajamas, Japanese type shoes, fishing rods, toy board, dolls, parasols, fans, pearls, and other articles too numerous to
mention, much of it being sent back to families and friends for Christmas gifts. It is said that the draft aft increased by a foot.
