My uncle (Charles Raymond Gilbert) was one of the USS Helena crew lost at sea when the Helena went down in 1943.
My mother is still alive and her sister, too. On Sept 17th, 2004 US Senator Patty Murray of Washington State presented
seven (7) WWII metals, including the Purple Heart, earned by Charles Raymond Gilbert, to surviving sisters Jeanne
Gilbert Savage and Joanne Gilbert Schultz
