CA 75 Shipmates.
The late Bob Kendle on the right with CA 75 mate.(?)

Jerry's Dad, Joseph Johnson Jr., served on the USS Helena CA-75 as a radioman, during the earlier 50s.

8 weeks boot camp training June 9th 1943.
After boot camp I went to school then to Little Creek for training.
Caught the LST 512 in New York and rode it to England feb 44.
Got on LCT 809. Made the practice landing in southern England.
Returned home and was assigned to the make up crew in Newport RI for CA 75.
Was in NY for 21 gun salute for Harry truman.
Hit storm off the east coast and returned to Bayonne NJ for refit then on to Cuba.
I got out in March 1946. Joined Army. June 1948-1952.

Went to France on June 5th landing with the first wave of LCTs on Utah beach.
CIC during a TROUNCE exercise. February 1958 during a Regulus guidance exercise.
