OI Division
Radarman
The Radarman gazes intently at his scope-----CONTACT! "Bogey---072---53 miles." The Combat Informatio Center reacts quickly, and the new contact is tracked on large plotting boards and determined to be either friendly or enemy.
Radarmen are always busy in CIC, keeping the Officer of the Deck on the bridge informed of any new developments. They aid in the navigation of the ship in poor visibility, in control of the helicopter, and many other tasks.
In addition to radar, OI personnel are familiar with AEW (Airborne Electronics Countermeasures), IFF (Identification, Friend or Foe), and ECM (Electronic Countermeasures). All play an important part in our county's defense.
Radarmen work with the Navy's newest equipment and do a fine job of interpreting the information for the benefit of the ship's operations.
