Marines aboard the HELENA serve many vital functions.
They maintain the ship's internal security, serve as a guard, furnish orderlies to high-ranking officers, provide ceremonial guards, and render honors to visiting dignitaries.
Another duty of the Marines is one 3"/50 gun mount, its upkeep and firing. They also provide a landing force for operatioons ashore if needed.
