Marines aboard the HELENA serve many vital functions.
They maintain the ship's internal security, serve as a guard, furnish orderlies to high-ranking officers,
provide ceremonial guards,
and render honors to visiting dignitaries and care of the Brig.
As of 1956 Marines were given the dutys of manning the two AA directors , number 52 starbord and number 53 port.
Another duty of the Marines is one 3"/50 gun mount, its upkeep and firing. They also provide a landing force for operations ashore if needed.
