Rear Admiral Cassias graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso
in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and was
commissioned through Officer Candidate School in October 1974.

Rear Admiral Cassias' sea tours include USS HADDOCK (SSN 621),
USS PARCHE (SSN 683) , USS HAWKBILL (SSN 666), and USS PUFFER
(SSN 652). He also served as Anti-Submarine Officer on the staff of
Commander, Carrier Group ONE.

Rear Admiral Cassia served as Commanding Officer, USS
BIRMINGHAM (SSN 695) from April 1992 to November 1995. During his
tour, BIRMINGHAM completed an Arabian Gulf deployment with the
NIMITZ Battle Group and a surge deployment to the Western Pacific.
BIRMINGHAM was awarded the 1992 COMSUBPAC Golden Anchor
Award and the 1993 commander, Submarine Squadron SEVEN Battle
Efficiency "E" award during Rear Admiral Cassis' tour.

Ashore, Rear Admiral Cassias served three tours on the staff of
Commander Submarine Force, U. S. Pacific Fleet, first as Assistant Combat
Systems Training Team Officer and later as a senior member of the Tactical
Readiness Evaluation Team and Prospective Commanding Officer
Instructor.

Rear Admiral Cassias also served as Commander Submarine Squadron
ELEVEN/Commander Submarine Force, U. S. Pacific Fleet Representative
West Coast in San Diego, California from 1997 to 1998. He subsequently
served as the Executive Assistant to the Director, Force Structure,
Resources, and Assessment, J-8, on the Joint Staff.

His first Flag assignment was as Commander Logistics Group, Western
Pacific/CTF 73 based in Singapore.

Rear Admiral Cassias' previous assignment was as Commander
Submarine Group TEN, Commander Submarine Group TWO and
Commander Navy Region Northeast.

Rear Admiral Cassias is a distinguished graduate of the Industrial
College of the Armed Forces, where he received a Master's Degree in
National Resource Strategy in 1999.

Rear Admiral Cassias' awards include the Defense Superior Service
Medal, the Legion of Merit (Six Awards), the Meritorious Service Medal,
the Navy Commendation Medal (Two Awards), the Navy Achievement
Medal (Three Awards), and various unit awards.

Captain McLaughlin received his commission from the United States
Naval Academy in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ocean
Engineering. He also has a Masters in Business Administration from the
University of Nebraska.

Following nuclear power training and the Submarine Officer Basic
Course, he served as Mail Propulsion Assistant and Damage Control
Assistant in USS GLEN P. LIPSCOMB (SSN 685) from May 1983 to
June 1986.

In March 1987, Captain McLaughlin reported to USS GREENLING
(SSN 614) and served as Chemistry/Radiological Controls Assistant until
October 1987. Upon completion of this assignment, he attended the
Submarine Officer Advanced Course, and reported to USS GROTON (SSN
694) where he served as Engineer Officer from March 1988 to January 1991.

From February 1991 to February 1993, Captain McLaughlin served on
the Atlantic Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board. After a brief assignment
as Executive Officer on Ore-commissioning Unit HARTFORD (SSN 768),
Captain McLaughlin served as Executive Officer on USS DALLAS (SSN
700) from June 1993 to January 1995.

Captain McLaughlin was an Action Officer at United States Strategic
Command at Offutt Air Force Base from March 1995 until December 1997.
He then commanded USS LA JOLLA (SSN 701) from July 1998 to May
2001. Following command, Captain McLaughlin served as the Submarine
Force Atlantic Representative at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard from June 2001
to April 2003.

Captain McLaughlin served at Naval Reactors in Washington D. C. as
the Prospective Commanding Officer Instructor and Fleet Technical
Assistant to the Deputy Director, Naval Reactors from May 2003 to June
2005.
Captain McLaughlin's decorations include the Legion of Merit, the
Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Meal with two
stars, the Navy Commendation with four stars, the Navy Achievement
Medal, and various unit awards.

He is married to the former Karen Juliette Stearman of Mesa, Arizona.
They have two sons, Matthew and Mark.

DOUGLAS E. WRIGHT
UNITED STATES NAVY

Commander Doug Wright, a native of Peoria County, Illinois, graduated
from the University of Illinois in January 1985 with a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Metallurgical Engineering and received his commission via the
Naval ROTC Program. After completing nuclear power training and the
Submarine Officer Basic Course, he reported to USS BENJAMIN
FRANKLIN (SSBN 640) in Charleston, SC where he served as Reactor
Controls Assistant, Damage Control Assistant, and Sonar Officer during a
refueling overhaul and subsequent post-overhaul deterrent patrol on the
BLUE crew. He also conducted two deterrent patrols out of Holy Loch,
Scotland aboard USS HENRY CLAY (BLUE) (SSBN 625) during this tour.

In 1989, Commander Wright returned to the University of Illinois as an
NROTC Naval Science Instructor, earning a Master's Degree in Nuclear
Engineering during his tour. After graduating from the Submarine Officer
Advanced Course, he reported to USS BERGALL (SSN 667) in Norfolk,
VA. He served as Engineer Officer from July 1992 to June 1996 and
completed Northern Atlantic and Mediterranean deployments prior to
decommissioning the ship in Bremerton, WA. He then reported to
Submarine Squadron Eleven in San Diego, CA where he served as Squadron
Engineer until August 1998.

Commander Wright subsequently served as Executive Officer of USS
ASHEVILLE (SSN 758) until May 2000, completing a Western Pacific/
Persian Gulf deployment with the USS STENNIS Battle Group. Following
this tour, he reported to US Strategic Command in Omaha, NE where he
served as Executive Assistant to the Director of Operations and Logistics
and the Director of Plans and Policy.

Commander Wright assumed command of USS HELENA (SSN 725) in
Guam while deployed to the Western Pacific in December 2003. USS
HELENA also conducted another Western Pacific Deployment and
numerous Strike Group Exercises during his tour.

Commander Wright has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service
Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards). the Navy
Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two
awards), and is entitled to wear various campaign and unit awards.

He is married to the former Jean Kimbrell of Farmington, Illinois. They
have a son George and a daughter Hannah and reside in San Diego.

Commander Bill Schwalm, a native of Petersburg. Michigan, graduated
from Michigan State University in June 1987 with a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Computer Science and a Computer Engineering Minor. He
received his commission via Officer Candidate School.

After completing Nuclear Power Training and Submarine Officer Basic
Course, he reported to USS DANIEL WEBSTER (SSBN 626)(GOLD) in
Groton, CT where he served as Chemistry and Radiological Controls
Assistant and Main Propulsion Assistant. To complete his submarine
qualifications, Commander Schwalm deployed with USS SEA DEVIL (SSN
644) for a Northern Deployment in 1990.

In 1992, Commander Schwalm reported to Naval Nuclear Power
Training Unit, Charleston, South Carolina as a Shift Engineer for MTS 626.
After serving as Shift Engineer for over a year, he was selected to serve as
Material Officer. In 1995, he reported to Naval Submarine School,
Submarine Officer Advanced Course and received follow-on orders to USS
ALABAMA (SSN 731)(BLUE) in Bangor, Washington.

Commander Schwalm served as Navigation and Operations Officer on
ALABAMA where he made six strategic deterrent patrols. From 1998 to
2000, he served at United States Strategic Command in Omaha, Nebraska.
While assigned to STRATCOM, he worked on the Missile Strike Team in
the Plans and Policy Directorate. In April 2001, he reported to USS
PHILADELPHIA (SSN 690) as Executive Officer.

While assigned to PHILADELPHIA, Commander Schwalm made a six-
month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea. In 2001, PHILADELPHIA
earned the Commander Submarine Squadron Two Battle Efficiency
Excellence Award. From September 2002 through June 2005, he served
as Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International
Security Policy in the Pentagon.

Commander Schwalm's decorations include the Defense Superior
Service Medal. the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy
Meritorious Service Medal. the Navy Commendation Medal (Three
Awards). and the Nay Achievement Medal (Two Awards).
