A WELCOME TO REMEMBER, INDEED!
PORTLANDERS LINED THE CITY'S BRIDGES AND CHEERED AS HELENA STEAMED UNDERNEATH.
CROWDS WAITED AT DOCKSIDE AND HURRIED ABOARD WHEN GENERAL VISITING BEGAN.
THEN, FOR THREE DAYS, SOME 28,000 WAITED IN LINES OFTEN OVER A BLOCK LONG FOR A CHANCE TO TOUR THE FLAGSHIP. THE BEAUTIFUL SCENERY OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND THE WARM HOSPITALITY OF THE OREGONIANS WON PORTLAND MANY FRIENDS AMONG HELENAMEN
