Draft Card front
At age 17, I joined the Navy on a minority hitch. This meant I was to be released from active duty prior to my 21st birthday. Which I was. A few days before I turned 21, the local draft board contacted me to say I had to register with them. Say WHAT? I just finished nearly 4 years on active duty, some of it in a combat zone and now you want to draft me?
They replied "no, but you must be registered".
So I did.
Seems they had a category for guys like me who had over 6 month's active duty.
Their lowest category was 4F. I was placed in the category above 4F.
